Chen Chun (陈淳) (1482—1544), Chinese, Ming Dynasty (1368–1644), was a renowned painter, calligrapher, and scholar who excelled in classical studies, ancient prose, poetry, calligraphy, and painting. A master of lyrical expression, he was celebrated for his unrestrained ​cursive seal script and ​bold, fluid brushwork. Trained under the eminent painter ​Wen Zhengming, Chen Chun drew inspiration from Song and Yuan dynasty masters. Specializing in ​floral painting, he occasionally ventured into landscapes characterized by ​minimalist texturing techniques. His floral works, rendered in ​subtle ink tones and ​tilted brushwork, achieve a delicate balance between controlled chaos and poetic spontaneity.
