Chen Chun (陈淳) (1482—1544), Chinese, Ming Dynasty (1368–1644), was a renowned painter, calligrapher, and scholar who excelled in classical studies, ancient prose, poetry, calligraphy, and painting. A master of lyrical expression, he was celebrated for his unrestrained cursive seal script and bold, fluid brushwork. Trained under the eminent painter Wen Zhengming, Chen Chun drew inspiration from Song and Yuan dynasty masters. Specializing in floral painting, he occasionally ventured into landscapes characterized by minimalist texturing techniques. His floral works, rendered in subtle ink tones and tilted brushwork, achieve a delicate balance between controlled chaos and poetic spontaneity.
